San Sebastian College-Recoletos had a forgettable campaign back in NCAA Season 95, where they had a 2-6 win-loss slate. But something that stuck to the Lady Stags was their five-set loss to Emilio Aguinaldo College in early 2020.
Prior to that, the Lady Generals were riding a 16-game losing streak.
And when the two teams met anew in Season 97 on Sunday, San Sebastian made sure to get the win this time around.
“Sobrang saya namin lalo na nakabawi kami sa EAC,” said team captain and libero Jewelle Bermillio.
“Nung last season talo kami sa EAC so kaming mga seniors, ito talaga ‘yung goal namin na kailangan naming makabawi sa EAC. And hindi lang sa EAC, sa iba pang teams. Masaya kami kasi maganda ‘yung nilalaro ng lahat kahit na may mga errors.”
San Sebastian was simply dominant in this one, carving out a 25-11, 25-13, 25-16 win to start off in Season 97 on a winning note with rookies Katherine Santos and Kristine Dionisio leading the way.
For the returning head coach Roger Gorayeb, meanwhile, their latest win was made even sweeter as it marked his comeback in the collegiate ranks after missing out the previous season due to illness.
“Masaya kasi panalo eh,” the legendary mentor said.
“Mahirap man o madali para sa amin, masaya ako kasi panalo despite the fact na one month lang kaming nageensayo pa lang tapos itong mga bata ang ganda ng performance.”
