Bringing Together Access and Affordability: Sanrai’s Approach to Redefine Indian Health Care

Healthcare in India is separated by those who can afford the very best the world can offer and those who cannot. Sanrai Med India was born from this gap. In 2006, co-founders Jaspreet and Amarpreet Rai were faced with a situation where Jaspreet’s grandmother needed medical treatment for a respiratory condition and could not get it in India. Only a person who could afford an expensive medical device and could educate themselves on its use and maintenance, had access to this care. To the founders, this did not seem right. And thus, Sanrai grew into one of the leading providers of oxygen and sleep therapy in India today.

”Sanrai was founded to make innovative medical care accessible for all. By focusing on the highest quality medical devices and creating an entire support infrastructure for patients, Sanrai is able to bring hospital grade care into each patient’s home,” says Amarpreet.

As a testament to their success in India with their ‘Hospital Grade Care at Home’ mission, Amarpreet Rai, received the ‘ET Inspiring Women Leaders Award 2022’ in April. This prestigious award acknowledged her as an inspiration and game-changer for transforming healthcare access in India. To amplify their efforts in making healthcare affordable and accessible, on the occasion of World Health Day 2022, Sanrai Med launched Sanrai Solutions, a continuum of care starting with early screening, to accurate diagnosing, treating, and managing patient outcomes for the long term. This starts with point of care screening and diagnostic devices, which can include artificial intelligence or app based tools to provide clinicians information on diseases like asthma attacks, sleep apnea, pneumonia, COPD, and bronchitis, among other respiratory diseases. These tests can often be done from the comfort of a patients home, following the gold standard of care which enables earlier diagnosing and ultimately improved patient outcomes. Once a patient is diagnosed, they are commonly prescribed an oxygen concentrator, CPAP, or BiPAP so they can continue getting treatment at home.

As the Indian population ages and chronic diseases become more prevalent, early detection and proper long term management of these illnesses is essential to patients leading long and high quality lives. A key factor in this is raising the awareness levels in society about the early warning signs and indicators of these more silent diseases. With Sanrai Solutions, the focus is on education and patient awareness. Every Sanrai employee prides themselves on taking the time to explain, train, and serve each patient. The company is a testament that healthcare at home can be cost-effective, reliable, and successful.

Commenting on the new launch, Rai said, “Through Sanrai Solutions, we seek to support thousands of patients who lack access to hospital level care by bringing the hospital to them. Point of care solutions, rather than relying only on the traditional healthcare infrastructure, will be revolutionary in improving access to high quality healthcare for all. At Sanrai, we believe in finding innovative solutions that raise the level of care for everyone, not just those who can afford it.”
