Eskom will implement Phase 3 load shedding on Monday and Tuesday evenings.
South Africans are set for more intense power cuts this week. Eskom will implement Phase 3 load shedding
on Monday and Tuesday evenings.
The utility said it will resume with Phase 2 load shedding from 5pm to 10pm tonight, but is forced to move to Phase 3 on Monday and Tuesday evening due to further loss of generation capacity. . Thereafter, the load shift will be reduced to Phase 2 for the remainder of the week.
“Eskom will continue to closely monitor the system, adjust and communicate any necessary changes. Since last night, there have been failures on a unit at the Tutuka, Camden and Majuba power plants,” Eskom said in a statement.
He added that while a generating unit is back in service today at the Hendrina and Majuba power plants, it still has 2 094 MW of idle generation capacity due to scheduled maintenance and another 17 640 MW out due to breakdowns.
“Eskom appeals to all South Africans to help limit the impact of load shedding by reducing electricity use and turning off all non-essential items,” said Eskom.
He urged consumers to provide us with electricity sparingly, especially between 05:00 and 09:00 in the morning and 16:00 – 22:00 in the evening.
