Phase 2 load shedding will be implemented for the fifth time this week, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Friday, Eskom said in a statement.
However, several generation units are expected to return to service starting Friday afternoon and over the weekend.
“Eskom will continue to closely monitor the system in order to adjust the shedding phase accordingly,” said spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha.
From Thursday afternoon, a generation unit of the Majuba, Tutuka, Grootvlei, Kriel and Matimba power stations was put back into service.
“This, however, is still insufficient to suspend the load shedding implementation as a generating unit, each of the Kriel, Kusile, Majuba, Camden and Matla power plants tripped or discharged for repairs,” said Mantshantsha .
A generating unit at the Kusile power plant is expected to return to service this afternoon.
A total of 2 094 MW is awaiting scheduled maintenance, while another 16 305 MW of capacity is not available due to failures.
