Albanese accuses PM of providing an “incentive” to NT to sell Darwin port in 2016

Opposition leader Anthony Albanese accused Scott Morrison of providing a “$ 20 million incentive” to the NT government in 2016 when he was treasurer to sell the Port of Darwin to a company that had ties to the Communist Party.

“I was asked about China and the other night we had a question about the Darwin port where Scott Morrison said it had nothing to do with the federal government,” Albanese said.

“Well, this here is a signed document, signed by Scott Morrison in May 2016 as Treasurer of Australia and by David Tollner, the (former) Treasurer of the Northern Territory.

“The government and Scott Morrison as treasurer provided a $ 20 million incentive to the Northern Territory government as part of its asset recycling program to sell the Port of (Darwin) … to a company that he had interests linked to the Chinese Communist Party “.
