Woman rescued from a car accident where she was trapped for 2 days

KENLY, NC (WTVD) – A driver was rescued just days after he went off the road in Johnston County.

The man who came to his aid is hailed as a hero. He spoke to ABC11 about how he found the woman trapped in a wrecked but still alive SUV.

“Words cannot describe what was going through my mind and body at the time,” said Paul Edwards.

His white SUV was on its side hidden in a field of trees.

Edwards said he saw something shiny as he drove.

“It didn’t feel right. It didn’t feel right,” Edwards said.

When he returned, it was then that he found the wrecked SUV and the woman inside who was in desperate need of help.

Monday night, Edwards made his way back down a slope and through the woods, showing where he found the wreck.

“She wasn’t up here on the road either,” Edwards recalled. “She was a long way over there.”

On Monday afternoon, Chopper 11 flew over Flower Hill Road in Kenly, where first responders eventually reached the woman.

“He moans and groans,” Edwards told the switchboard during a 911 call. “He’s not fit. He can’t move; he’s shaking here, ma’am.”

He later recounted the moments he found the vehicle.

“We yelled, ‘Is there anyone in there?’ She said “I’ve been here, I’ve been here for two days. My back is broken. ”She was, it was horrible.

“It was starting to get frantic, you know, ‘get me out of here,’” she added. “I just knelt beside her and tried to keep her calm. I knew she was in too bad a condition to be able to help.”

Edwards noticed the damage and debris left behind.

“I saw debris from the car – there is the mirror,” he said.

Edwards saw something else, something that shocked him.

“I’ve seen baby toys, I’ve seen a stroller,” he said.

Fortunately, there were no children in the vehicle.

Edwards is grateful that he was able to help.

“Everyone said God was helping me to help her,” she said.

Edwards said an ambulance took the woman to the hospital. He said he plans to meet her once she gets better.

Authorities have not yet released their name or status.
