Annastacia Palaszczuk ‘saved people’s lives’ with ‘tough’ border policy

Labor Longman candidate Rebecca Fanning praised Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s handling of the pandemic, saying her “tough decisions” at the border have saved lives.

Ms. Fanning joined Liberal MP Terry Young for Sky News Australia’s fifth-place marginal debate held at Longman’s polling station.

Sky News host Laura Jayes criticized Ms. Fanning, a former adviser to the Palaszczuk government, about the state’s border policies during the COVID pandemic.

“Was there enough compassion shown during the crisis?” Ms. Jayes has repeatedly asked among previous reports that interstate travelers could not see their dying relatives due to the state’s strict border policy at the time.

“Yes … it was only because Annastacia Palaszczuk made those difficult decisions at the border that we avoided blockades in New South Wales and Victoria that cost the people their lives, their livelihoods and mean that the businesses had to quit, ”Ms. Fanning said.

“It was these difficult decisions, listening to health experts, that saved people’s lives, that prevented more funerals from taking place in Queensland.”
