Ron DeSantis Gives Democratic Aid Dollars to Voters as Gas Tax Bribe Before Mid-Term Deadlines

Last week Florida GOP Gov. Ron De Santis gave his constituents a big wet kiss in the form of a $ 1.2 billion tax exemption on various items, including diapers, appliances, and gas.

“You will see outages for really critical needs, such as gas, diapers, emergency supplies, skilled craft tools, recreation, and so on,” he said. She said Friday at the signing ceremony of the bill organized at Sam’s Club in Ocala. “Families will be able to save for the things that really matter to them.”

And lest Floridians forget the source of this bounty, the cuts are proceeding, with no sales tax on hurricane supplies for two weeks starting in late May; Freedom Week in July where concerts, sporting events and outdoor gear are tax free; then a tax exemption for returning to school until the first week of August; power tools in September; and, for the grand finale, an exemption from the gas tax in view of the mid-term elections. What a coincidence!

“We have done more than any other state to counter the headwinds of Biden’s inflation, to give relief to our citizens, and we will continue to do so,” DeSantis boasted.

And given the recent kerfuffle Regarding textbooks in Florida, perhaps DeSantis is betting that most people won’t be able to do the arithmetic on this one. Because not only is this tax exemption a “gift” from Florida taxpayers to themselvessince they’re allegedly the ones responsible for the state’s record budget surplus, but a big chunk of what DeSantis claims to give back to his constituents is federal government money, as insider points out.

You see, the US inflation theory is that the Democrats pumped too much money into the economy with their Covid stimulus aid packages, and caused people to spend so much that it pushed prices up, causing inflation. It doesn’t matter if there is inflation all over the planet: Republicans will continue to scream bloody murders about “Bideninflation”, even in the midst of unprecedented economic growth and full employment. Republicans are also very angry that incentive controls have made Americans reluctant to work for starvation wages, and how right?

In fact, the gas tax exemption is paid $ 200 million from the US $ 1.9 trillion bailout of 2021, backed by Congressional Democrats and the Biden administration – that is the same amount of money they blame for “Bidenflation”. So it’s more than a little ironic, not to mention annoying, that DeSantis uses that money to “fix” inflation by encouraging people to spend more and raise the price of gas.

And PS, Your Wonkette went to math class before Republicans thought of lying about arithmetic being “woken up”. So we are able to understand that $ 200 million is one sixth of $ 1.2 billion, which means that roughly 17 percent of the money DeSantis is “returning” to taxpayers is actually a gift from the federal government. So remember Uncle Joey in November, Florida!
