Politics Podcast: Our First 2024 Democratic Primary Draft

As a presidential candidate in 2020, Joe Biden said he saw himself as a “bridge” to a new generation of leaders, yet he has reportedly said he intends to run for reelection in 2024. If he does, he may face opponents in the Democratic primary and, if reelected, would be 82 at the start of his second term. Biden’s approval rating is currently 10 percentage points underwater, and though still relatively high among Democrats, it has dropped about 15-20 points since he took office.

With that in mind, the crew follows up on last week’s 2024 Republican primary draft with its first Democratic primary draft to see what the bench of Democratic leadership looks like beyond the president. Also in this installment of the FiveThirtyEight Politics podcast, they discuss the latest developments in the current round of redistricting.
