Tylor Megill of the Mets started the game, going five innings, knocking out five and walking three hitters. Drew Smith, Joely Rodriguez and Seth Lugo came in relief. Edwin Diaz came in to close the game in the ninth inning and hit the side. The Mets would have won 3-0.
This is the second no-hitter in the history of the Mets. The first came in 2012 when Johan Santana didn’t hit the St. Louis Cardinals.
During the 2021 MLB season, they were there nine without battersbreaking the all time record. The previous record for most no-hitters pitched in any given year was eight, set in 1884.
