Putin warns of the “lightning response” to the intervention in Ukraine

President Vladimir Putin warned Wednesday that if any other country intervenes in Moscow’s military operations in Ukraine, Russia will launch a swift military response.

Speaking with lawmakers, Putin said that “if anyone proposes to intervene in current events from the outside and creates unacceptable threats of a strategic nature for us, he should know that our response … will be swift.”

The Russian leader said the military would not hesitate to use the most modern weapons.

“We have all the tools for this, which no one else can claim to have. We don’t brag about it – we will use them if necessary. And I want everyone to know, “Putin said.

“We have already made all the decisions about it.”

Putin has often touted Russia’s development of modern weapons, including hypersonic missiles and the new Sarmat ICBM which was successfully tested earlier this month.

‘Extremely difficult weeks’

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said Wednesday that Kiev has faced “extremely difficult weeks”, warning of severe “destruction” in a developing Russian offensive in the east of the country.

“We have extremely difficult weeks ahead,” Reznikov said in a statement on Facebook.

“Russia has already gathered forces for a large-scale offensive in eastern Ukraine,” he added, saying that Moscow “will try to inflict as much pain as possible” and warned of “destruction and painful casualties”.

“In the next few days we will need all our resilience and extraordinary unity,” Reznikov told the Ukrainians.

He added that upcoming events “will determine the future of our state”.
